There are some political commentators who insist that the U.S. is exceptional, a shining light on a hill, etc. Well, we got more proof of it the day before yesterday.
“Earlier this week, the US broke its own record for the most deadly mass shootings in a single year.
“A series of murders took the figure to 38 incidents in which four or more people, not including the shooter, were shot and killed. The previous high was 36, set last year.” (Source: The Guardian, 12/7/2023)
We are indeed, the exception. No other country comes close to us in the arbitrary mass shootings of its citizens.
Ahhh yes. A true “accomplishment.” Thanks to certain idiots in Congress. Perhaps we should give each of them a trophy signifying the “rewards” of their efforts?

Accompanied by a desire to have the wool pulled over their eyes. (Take the wheel, Jesus!)

Let’s see, our health care system was ranked 23rd, we aren’t even in the top ten, not even in the top twenty. In science education we placed 11th. The US has the 2nd highest rate of gun deaths in the world, ranking only behind Brazil. We lead in the number of children killed by guns. The leading cause of death among children in the US is being shot. Around 20% of children in the US live in poverty, 7% higher than the world wide average, and one of the worst child poverty ratings of any 1st world country. When it comes to overall child wellness, including living conditions, mental and physical health, education, etc. The US isn’t even in the top 30. So yes, the US is indeed exceptional in many ways. Not the right ways, but we are exceptional.
