Watch the stars in their courses and imagine yourself running alongside them. Think constantly on the changes of the elements into each other, for such thoughts wash away the dust of earthly life.” — Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 7.47

Running alongside the stars thinking of the changes of one element into another? Marcus Aurelius (12-180 CE) knew that stars were the furnaces in which the elements were made, transformed one into another? WTF?

So, Hans Bethe’s 1967 Nobel Prize in Physics for figuring out how nuclear fusion reactions fueled the Sun wasn’t original research?

We have something else in common! I, too, think the Universe is infinite in size and time (but that eliminates the need of a creator).

Marcus Aurelius meant earth, air, fire, and water, right?

Many of the young think this is simplistic thinking but if you look at it “air” means gases, “earth” means solids, “water” means liquids, and “fire” means energy. So their elements were the three common phases of matter and energy.
