. . . some problems take care of themselves. I read this in this morning’s The Guardian:
Health and government officials have in recent days painted the resurgence of Coronavirus as a “pandemic of the unvaccinated”, highlighting that areas of the country with the most spread were those with lower than average vaccination rates, and almost all hospitalizations and deaths are now among those declining to be vaccinated.
I wonder when those most negatively affected will realize that they are being sacrificed on an altar of ideology.

The virus will settle down into a more harmless mode, just like the flu. It’s already been raging for a year and a half now, and that’s time enough to expect a lessening of virulence. Covid, blasting the world’s countries with a blanket of death, will become more like a nuisance than a death threat.

Lovely sentiment. So why is the delta variant ravaging the unvaccinated right now. And the flu isn’t exactly harmless, the flu vaccine every year is a new vaccine because of the evolution of the flu viruses over time. If we drop our guard, it too will ravage again. I believe this was Mr. Trumps approach in early 20220. He said that come summer it will just fade away (COVID-19 he was saying.) How is your prediction better than the President of the U.S>s?

Hmmm. Took a (very) quick gander at your blog. Didn’t see anything that talked about medical credentials. Funny how everyone has an “opinion” but so few are backed up by facts.
Steve is right. The “flu” is less of a “death threat” BECAUSE of vaccines.

At one point I was really hoping our right wing nut job types would get smart, and get vaccinated.
These days I see them as Darwin Award candidates. Really, what can we do that hasn’t been done yet? The facts are out there, the stats tell the story, it’s plain to see the Delta variant is killing dumbass non vaxxers. They still don’t get it… Whoosh!

Just to offer an alternative perspective, I will suggest two.. maybe three ideas. 1) In May, the CDC stopped tracking any breakthrough infections that did not result in death or hospitalization. 2) Also at the CDC, 12 of the 15 most vaccinated countries in the world are at high or very high travel risk for Americans. 3) Studies are now showing that the viral load in asymptomatic vaccinated people is similar to infected unvaccinated people.
These 3 facts alone, among others there are plenty, offer at least relatively plausible argument that perhaps the vaccines aren’t “enough” (meaning alone they aren’t sufficient) to produce herd immunity as intended. They are protective on some level (individually), but they are becoming far less of a “love your neighbor” measure.

Still keeping a sizable percentage of the population open for disease to mutate in was not at all bright. The vaccines are not showing to be as useful as desired, but there weren’t any guarantees in the first place. You start by doing the best you can and adjust from there. We started by doing far less than we could . . . over and over. I guess we thought it was like climate change, ignore it and it will go away.

Initially actually, in the Pfizer released documentation, their vaccine was 95% effective at preventing COVID-19. It didn’t start with “95% at preventing hospitalization of death”. These vaccines have been on a slope downhill since they came out, most recently in Israel showing under 40% efficacy…. The push for vaccination initially by the CDC was not to prevent death, but to reach herd immunity… which is not going to happen with the current vaccines. Endless boosters maybe lol.
We should have started with early treatments prior to the release of the vaccine(s). I don’t think we can point the finger at the unvaccinated driving the pandemic with any shred of coherency anymore. Given the waiting period between the first and second dose and the likelihood of infection during the waiting period and the 2 weeks following, it seems more probable that variants are succumbing to pressures due to mass vaccination. The only vector the vaccines target is the S1 subunit. The chances that the virus is adapting specifically to avoid that vector is uncanny if it is really being driven by unvaccinated who are not shedding that viral infection necessarily.
