My Defense is Individual Responsibility . . . Not!

As the trials of the insurrectionists of the Capitol roll on we find another interesting note. For long conservatives, in general, and the Republican Party, in specific, have championed “individual responsibility.” But the conservatives on trial are all taking a stance of “Individual responsibility . . . pah, I was tricked!” They claim that they ere duped by Donald Trump or QAnon leaders, or the Devil made me do it, or . . . the latest excuse being “Foxitus,” that is they were deluded by false information garnered by watching Fox News. (I am shocked, shocked I tell you!).

  1. Faux News, and its many counterparts, including FB and other social media sites, has created this monster to a large extent.

However, that does not give dumbasses a good excuse to run amok. As far as I know, the “your honor, I was a dumbass” defense hasn’t ever really gone over well in court.

    • It actually might get a lower sentence from a relieved judge, from not having to listen to days of nonsense.

      • If I was a judge, having to preside over any of the insurrectionists, I would drop the hammer on them. No excuse is good enough. I don’t care if I’d have to sit through it for days on end, or if they just walked in and took a guilty plea.

BOOM! Hammer dropped. They would not get off easy in front of judge SD.

How this plays out in the real world, we can only wait and see.

        • I think the stupidity defence is at least honest. The “I was duped” defense smacks of shyster lawyers and the “if Trump can get away with it, so can I” crowd.

  2. Republicans are championing personal responsibility, but only for other people.

    • Yeah, that seems to be it. There’s a word for that … let’s see … oh, hypocrisy.
