Herd Immunity My Ass . . . Just Sayin’

For your information, the adult population of the U.S. (18 years and up) is about 74% of all Americans. Of those 116 million have been fully vaccinated, about 34% of the total population. So, are we close to the 80-85% of the population needed to achieve the mythical “Herd Immunity”? We are not even half way there!

Part of this has to do with the fact that vaccines have just recently been approved for 16-18 year olds and, at least here in Chicago, youths down to 12 years old will begin getting vaccinated on Thursday!

In other words we haven’t even being trying for herd immunity as we excluded 26% of the population from getting vaccinated and we are just now opening the gates for part of those, the 12-17 year olds. We haven’t even begun on the under 12s.

And I am still hearing people claiming that everything will be “opened up” or “back open” by the Fourth of July.

I think these people need to start looking at reality. I have a fine view from this chair right here. I am sure they can find a similar viewpoint.

  1. Your reality and mine are running pretty close.

Out here in redneck land, their realities are a tad distorted from the facts. Which is why I still wear a mask in public spaces, even though I am vaccinated. I can’t trust these morons and their realities. As their realities, are nowhere near the one I live in.

    • Yep, I am fully vaxxed now and I will still wear a mask, etc. I posted on the myth of herd immunity today.

  2. Purely coincidentally, the people who are demanding that everything is reopened right away are usually the same people who are refusing to do anything (like vaccinations, masks, or social distancing) to actually make that happen. Their plan is, basically, let 250 million other people get sick or vaccinated soon so that I could get my haircut.

    • Yeah. The behavior isn’t new. Every major vaccination program has had similar resistance. The Internet just lets them be better organized and more convincing than in the “old days.”

  3. When I see so many people expressing fears about taking the vaccines, I think to myself, “look at all these big pricks afraid of a little prick”. Cowards they all are I say, every last one of them.

Every day, we have young men who go into enemy territory to fight for the lives and livelihood of their fellow man. Aren’t they taking a risk that they would be shot and killed while trying to protect the rest of humanity? But they do it anyway. You are being asked to take a small shot in the arm to save us all from this epidemic and you refuse because you might get sick? WTF is wrong with you?

    • Excellent comparison! Needs more exposure … but of course, there are always “excuses.”
