This is a rather brilliant and novel essay on the question portrayed in the title above.

Why Would God Care About Morality?

  1. Either way, with a multitude of gods you have at least the plausibility of social arrangements between them, in which case they would have moral standards and be subject to compromises so they could cooperate in a civil fashion”
I disagree. A god would be immune to consequence and could be a complete arse and nothing could be done about it.

    • Immune just how when it comes to other gods? Possibly they could be immune to forces being exerted by other gods but the Greek and Roman gods worked out ways to “hurt” one another. Social ostracization would, I suspect, be the biggest lever. Many people talk about how lonely it would be to be of the “one and only true god” sort.
