Texas Freezes, Repubs Blame . . .

The State of Texas has its own power grid. It supplies cheap electricity to all Texans (kinda sorta), but they don’t share or even connect to the grids of other states, so when their grid was laid low by fierce winter storms, millions of people had no electricity. And in many places that meant no light, no heat, no refrigeration, and no water (if you had water from a well), or too much water flooding houses from burst pipes.

The brave GOP legislators and officers of the state, not afraid to call a spade a spade, first blamed the outages on liberals. That didn’t seem to float at all well as their grid is run by Texans for Texans and regulated (or rather not regulated) by conservative Texas politicians. So, next in the blame line was “wind turbines.” Apparently a few of the Repubs were aware that on rare occasions wind turbines freeze, but since they are used successfully in places like Iceland and Siberia, that also is a hard sell. Next in line is Antifa, clearly Antifa sabotaged the electricity grid. Damn you, Antifa!

Currently the GOP fat cats are praying Jesus will come back and fix everything fit as a fiddle. Yep, their thoughts and prayers are hard at work.

Gotta love the Lone Star State! Not just “all Stetson and no cattle” but those Stetsons are coving up a paucity of brain cells. Maybe they should change their handle to the State with Single Digit IQs.

Addendum—As Seen on Politifact
In a Feb. 15 Facebook post, Scott L. Biddle wrote that the storm resulted from “weather manipulation and controlling the jet stream”—something he assured people is “not a conspiracy theory.” Says Joe Biden planned a winter storm as “warfare, an attack on Texas by altering the jet stream.” “Joe Biden’s ‘Dark Winter’ statement was not a random thought, it was a foreshadow of what was to come,” Biddle wrote. “Texas is the only state to have its own, entirely independent electric grid separate from the rest of the United States. This is warfare, an attack on Texas by altering the jet stream, seeding the clouds, and ultimately causing the storm that blacked out over 4 million people.”

Maybe there is something in the water?

  1. God blesses Texas with his own hand….
The pinnacle of conservative thought is the individual is supreme which is reflected in their laws and in this case, the state of Texas has legislated that belief into isolation. It is no real wonder why people feel alone.

    • But when individuals need help, they whine about how slowly the guvmint is acting. “All hat, no cattle” is quite appropriate at this time.

      • We had a similar storm and power outage a few years ago. BPA routed power from California through the wind-grid (two things conservatives hate) distribution systems we had in place. To supply our isolated valley.

        • Even as antiquated as the nation’s grid is, a little cooperation goes a long way. Texas decided to not cooperate with any other state/supplier thinking what? That Jesus would provide? They even starved their own grid by insisting on cheap electricity uber alles.

  2. You do recall that “The Professor” lives in Texas, right? No matter who’s at fault, I’m hoping he’s OK.

        • No kidding Nan! But to be fair, I had very little choice, if I were to uphold my family heritage of “You are a part of a bigger, more vital picture of lifetime support” if you catch my drift. So…

Not only am I pseudo-obligated to return and/or stay in Texas, I simply cannot leave my family when they need me. All of them have always been there for me when I’ve needed anything. I won’t belabor the point, but right after my own two kids became adults, my daughter (the oldest) got married, even though that could have freed me from family obligations to move—anywhere but Texas, Mississippi, or the South—my Mom became significantly ‘close care’ health wise and almost immediately after my son turned 19. 😏

Hence, I am happily obligated to my family loyalty and heritage to stay. No ifs, ands, or buts. Plus, all of us here as 8th-generation Texans, my son the 9th, are descendants of a handful of survivors from the Piedmont Easter Massacre of 1655 southern France/northwest Italy. IOW, we pre-first Texans (1843-1844) who fled religious European persecution, religious hate or extreme Fundamentalism, are now trying to co-exist with all of these ridiculous 4th-, 3rd-, and 2nd-generation white, Fundy-Evangy Texans today. 🤦‍♂️🙄

Steve, Nan, Ark, et al… today they are everywhere and they’ve turned this once overly friendly, tolerant, welcoming State into the Red Pro-Gun State it is today. Some days are just pure Hell here. They LOVE to make it that way if you are not identical and perfectly aligned to THEIR doctrines and policies. At times those are good days compared to others. 😟

      • I was wondering when they were going to get around to blame the godless atheists. Surely it is us which caused that storm through the massive Power of Unbelief.

    • 😄 Awww Nan, thank you so much for thinkin’ bout me. 😉

Yes, I am still alive and kicking… off the icy Rigor Mortis in my toes, legs, fingers, arms, and nose… which I CANNOT stop from runniness fluids trying to warm the frigid indoor temperature!!! ❄️❄️❄️❄️ And btw, for 3-days/nights I had ice on the INSIDE of my windows!!! 🥶

Fortunately, I have some great friends who live in a small town outside of Dallas (Rockwall), whose power grid is a (small) private Co-Op, so they’ve had power 98% of Winter storm Uri and Viola. I managed to drive during a tight, short window of time where the highways were clear (enough) to drive 35-miles to their place before Viola hit. 😁 So I’ve been a lucky Dare-devil getting here to them, but some of their other friends could not drive out—they are dealing with serious sewage issues. 😬

But back in Dallas—with no power or Rolling/Rotating Outages—obviously I had no internet. Hence, thank you… all of you for thinking about me and including me in your Heathen, Atheist, “bloody” God & Christianity defiling Association, a membership I am VERY proud to be a part of!!! You people, all going to Hell and burn, burn, burn 🔥… you are the finest, most intelligent blogging-buddies that keep me fairly sane as I live-in and cope with this GOD DAMN Lone Star State!!! You may never know how much you guys maintain my sanity here! LOL

  3. What, they didn’t try to blame the “jewish space lasers” like what’s her name claimed was the cause of the California forest fires?

On a more serious note, their electric grid is a nightmare, and deliberately so. By not permitting connections to other states they’ve been able to avoid federal regulation of their power grid. The whole system is insane. Because of the way they price electricity the cost apparently went from something like $26 per MWh to almost $9,000 per MWh (that is NOT a typo) in some parts of the state.

They also knew this was coming and did nothing to prepare for it. Back in 2011 they had a cold snap that caused similar issues, and were warned they needed to winterize their electrical and natural gas systems before they got an even more serious winter event. And, of course, they didn’t.

I should also point out that there may be just a wee bit of irony in that the same politicians that were calling for Texas to secede from the US just a week or two ago are now begging FEMA for help.

    • Good points all. I wonder if Ted Cruz is repeating his comments about how Californai can supply reliable electricity to its residents. Does anyone have Ted’s contact information in Cancun?

    • In a rare display of logic, since they aren’t regulated by federal agencies, they couldn’t blame any federal officers or agencies. Or maybe Obama was old news and they would end up blaming Trump because Trump didn’t fix what Obama did.

      • What, you didn’t hear? Biden did it, not Obama. Saw it over at Friendly Atheist or a similar site. Some self appointed “prophet” is claiming Biden caused the deep freeze in Texas with cloud seeding or chem trails or something. I really wish I was making this up.
