Republicans are often characterized as wishing our country would be restored to what it was like in 1954.
So do I.

I don’t want to start a class war; it started a long time ago and, unfortunately, we lost.
This confirms my observations that this really started to go downhill with Reagan followed by the Clinton and Democratic acquiescence. At the same time, union members themselves started to vote Republican because of social issues and because there was no longer a clear cut difference in the parties.

It started around the time of the Powell Memo and shortly thereafter the Dems decided to abandon their base of women, minorities, labor unions, working people, etc, and instead go after the professional class. They thought “Well where are they going to go. Well they found out that working people went over to the gOP in numbers and unions have faded even more. Assholes.
So, we are talking the better part of 50 years, at least 40+.
The graphs tell the story.

Yeah, I wasn’t exactly serious about going back to 1954 … eeeew. I would like to go back in that direction with regard to union membership and income inequality, however.
