New AP Poll Shows White Evangelicals . . .

Polls, being what they are, are more than a little problematic. But I guess it is not all that strange that a poll would find white evangelicals to be the least Christ-like of the groups polled (including the “Nones”!) and . . . well, here is a comment:

Compared to Catholics and mainstream protestants, white evangelicals oppose helping the poor, protecting minority groups, supporting children, and reject Biblical admonitions to avoid hoarding wealth. Non-religious people scored the highest when it came to supporting the basic tenets of Christianity actually.” (LGBTQ Nation)

“Non-religious people scored the highest when it came to supporting the basic tenets of Christianity actually.” Sheesh. Says a lot, but a poll like this cannot be used to make general conclusions, but the results are intriguing.

The AP-NORC poll of 1,053 adults was conducted Dec. 5-9 using a sample drawn from NORC’s probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population. The margin of sampling error for all respondents is plus or minus 4.0 percentage points. Respondents were first selected randomly using address-based sampling methods and later were interviewed online or by phone.

  1. Makes sense. They overwhelming support the literal Antichrist, Trump.

It seems they’re going complete David Koresh/Branch Davidians, too.

    • Going … away … would be nice. Yes, I think that is the solution.

      • Does, doesn’t it?

        Trump Presidency:

        1. I created a crisis
        2. I shot my mouth off
        3. It got worse
        4. My allies yelled at me behind the scenes
        5. I dialled it back down & the crisis dissipated
        6. Now praise me for solving the problem

Another day, another stupid thing that could have easily been avoided.

        • It might be different if he actually had an agenda to help the American people, but even then his methods are deplorable. Hey, we finally found the deplorables the Dems were talking about! They are in the White House (and the Repubs in the Congress and …).

          • Did you see Jim Bakker said on Monday that if you don’t support Trump you’re not saved.

These evangelicals have gone full-blown Jim Jones nuts.

                • I think he has been out for quite some time. The shocking thing is that he thought the preacher business was still a good one for him. I guess the old saw that “there is one born every minute …” applies.

          • I think Trump actually does have the agenda to help the American people, it’s just his definition of “the American people” is narrower and fuzzier than “people who live in America”.

            • Way narrower. He has it down to himself and occasionally a near relative (but not Melania).

C’mon now … you’re not REALLY surprised, are you? It’s been shown time and again that all Christians can offer is thoughts and prayers. Basic tenets? What are those?

    • A basic tenet can sleep only two. A grand tenet can sleep up to six, I am told.

  3. This poll just goes to show individual ethics outperforms “we believe” and religious obedience. We are personally compelled to resist evil, but by faith we are licensed to inflict it.

  4. Trump’s money even if acquired by scamming and stealing is proof of his Godliness. They all aim to be just as Godly.
