Like many of you, I felt that the primary motivation of Trump voters was the economic stagnation of the middle class and middle America. The elites were getting richer, hand over fist, while we were getting squeezed by employers and creditors, and that left us with the only option of getting mad. That may not have been the primary motivation, however. This a “must read” article from The Guardian.
A New Poll Shows What Really Interests ‘Pro-Lifers’: Controlling Women by Jill Filipovic.
The subtitle is “According to their own survey responses, anti-abortion voters are hostile to gender equality in practically every aspect” (I assume they meant “every respect” at the end there.)
And, of course, at the source of all of this misogyny? Well, you figure it out.

After your post on The Family, I watched and was thoroughly creeped out.
I couldn’t help but notice that Trump yesterday declared himself the Chosen One.
That idea will keep many supporters with him even if the economy and everything else fails.

Yeah, I just worked up the courage to view Ep. 2. It is all about power using any tool that is at hand and religions have fallen all over themselves to be such a tool and therefore become part of state power. These politicians are violating their oaths of office and have become political idolaters, worship a “Jesus” no one else has observed.

I’ve been playing with my mental information grids, and the facts seem to always line up the same, whether for Trump supporters, Bolsonaro supporters, FN people in France or Brexiteers. The backbone of their belief systems is a reinterpretation of aristocracy – as in value based on identity (Including hierarchy) rather than merit. This is multi-layered and intertwined with religious thinking patterns, arguments from authority and so forth.
Ultimately I think it’s just an animal survival strategy that was somewhat successful in certain subsets of humans, and that appeals to the people who were conditioned to those response patterns.

Having a warm, comforting structure is understandable, except that people report that their family lives weren’t all that good and white supremacy and misogyny have affected their lives negatively. The only one’s not seeing this are those who are hurting socially, financially, even spiritually (as their churches are failing to serve them well). It is a little like “I remember daddy–remember when he used his belt to beat us? Yeah, but dinner was on the table when he got home from work (or else)!” And Mussolini made the trains run on time.

Isn’t what we’re talking about basically the belief in mythology as presented by political authority figures? And the idea that rejecting it puts the individual in danger because of exclusion?

I don’t know how much belief is involved. I think many Republicans knew, for example, that trickle down economics was bogus but they supported it because, well their paymasters told them to.
I have a proposal to not allow political money donations to come from other than constituents. Why should a Governor of Utah, for example, be able to accept donations from people in other states that he will not be representing? And if corporations are to be people, they need residences. Wherever their headquarters are, that is the state and county and whatever in which they can donate funds. If they want to go and work for a candidate elsewhere, well that is free speech. Sending money, however, when you are not a constituent is influence peddling and that is currently illegal.

Before Trump came along, there were no Republican candidates that sufficiently represented my hatred for women. Misogyny is always my number one voting issue, followed by animosity for the poor, then a commitment to destroying planet Earth. In Trump, I found all three!
