I am Shocked, Shocked I Tell You . . . Again

According to an article in The Guardian:

A report published on 22 May by the Congressional Research Service, a non-partisan think tank for members of Congress, found the tax cuts did not significantly affect the economy or boost wages, but benefited investors more than anyone else.

“The evidence continues to mount that the Trump-GOP tax cuts were a scam, a giant bait-and-switch that promised workers big pay raises, a lot more jobs and new investments, but they largely enriched CEOs and the already wealthy,” said Frank Clemente, executive director of Americans for Tax Fairness.

He noted only 4% of the US workforce saw any sort of pay increase or bonus from the tax cuts. Meanwhile, data collected by ATF shows corporations have cut thousands of jobs since the tax cuts were passed, while using tax windfalls to buy back $1tn of their own stock, which primarily benefits corporate executives and wealthy investors since half of all Americans own no stock.

This was in the midst of an article about how AT&T has terminated 23,328 jobs since the tax bill was passed after promising to invest $1 billion in capital expenditures and create 7,000 new jobs at the company if Trump’s hugely controversial tax cut bill was passed.

Is anyone shocked? Will anyone, besides Elizabeth Warren, make this a keystone of a run for the presidency? I would.

Mr. Trump claimed that the tax bill wouldn’t help him at all, so this guarantees that we won’t see any of his tax returns before the next election.

  1. I knew from the moment tRump took office that it would be party time for the rich. Sometimes it sucks being right.

    • I don’t see how a candidate could fail to “make hay” off of this, especially since the rich got a permanent tax cut and the rest of us got a temporary one.

      • Oh I’m sure someone will bring it up!

The R’s will lie, obfusctae, and ignore, just like they do on every other tRump atrocity upon our constitution, moral values, and common sense.

  2. I agree that some candidate could make hay off this information. My sarcastic/cynical side tells me it is highly unlikely any will do so.
Oh dear, some will say of me. They will state that I am un’Merikkkan even. Well maybe I have become so. Four years in USMC, a sweet over seas ‘vacation’ in soggy Vietnam and the other wars of choice since then, as in every one of the damn fool wars the nation has been in since 1945.
Yes, the rich get ever richer and the rest of us can just make do the best we can.
Hey folks! We outnumber them! Maybe it is getting much closer to time for a revolt?

    • Both parties seem to have decided that represent corporate and rich donors and not us. I wish there were a viable third party we could vote for and shock the shit of them.

      • I see that third party is essentially Bernie and Trump. No one really believes that The Orange One is really a Republican. He is just an independent loose cannon who used the Republicans as his tool to get where he is. He has repeatedly demonstrated he has no scruples. Bernie sure as hell isn’t a mainstream Democrat. He would just use the Dems as his tool. The only difference is Bernie has good ideas that would improve the lives of people while The Trumpster is only in it for himself.
