Are Religion and Gaslighting One and the Same?

Here is an excellent description of gaslighting. At first it appeared to be just an essay on psychology, but upon reflection I think it has something to say about Evangelical Christinaity.

  2. Just like what religious fundies do to those who are not yet followers of the particular religion they are pushing? Yeah, same thing as gas lighting in my opinion. Both are attempts to get you to blindly follow some stat who “claims” to be/know what is best for you, when it is actually the one who does the gas lighting who wants the benefits of having a useful slave/servant. Hmmm, maybe organized religion is THE real definition of gas lighting. Yeah, I’m feeling quite sarcastic today.

  3. I find this quality/definition to be primary in most rigid ideolological positions, with the ‘sellers’ of said rigid point of view marketing insanity and stupidity if one does not accept their perspective. True of organized religion, for sure … but not confined there.

    • I am reminded of the GOP attitude of “Are you going to believe me or your lying eyes?”
