So Beautiful!

This afternoon I went to see and hear the musical Beautiful based upon the life and music of Carole King. Her most famous album is Tapestry which is fitting as she seems to have woven a little bit of the tapestries of the lives of myriad people, including me.

We seem desperate to find words to live by and it is disappointing so many of us have settled for a hateful and violent monotheistic religion when better words to live by are right under our noses.

Beautiful closes with the song of the same name, part of which is:

You’ve got to get up every morning
With a smile in your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You’re gonna find, yes you will
That you’re beautiful, as you feel.

Words to live by, indeed.

  1. I don’t always get up with a smile on my face, too much arthritis and other health issues. I do like the parts of her song you quoted. I do TRY every dy to treat all those I come in contact with the way I want to be treated. Notice I said try, as somedays I don’t feel all that great. Yes, I have been absent from commenting due to my health. Still I am certain that treating others as you wish to be treated predates every religion ever known to humans. It has to or the human race would have died out long, long ago.
On my own insignificant blog I almost always close with asking all who visit it to treat others as they want to be treated or at least to be nice to each other.
A quote from Margaret Mead comes to mind; “Never believe that a few caring people cannot change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever had.” Yeah, I am starting to get back to my old normal and may pester you good folks with my comment again. Hell, I may even start posting new garbage on my own little insignificant blog soon again.
I am certain I missed out onside excellent posts here at Class Warfare blog. Now, if I can just sit at the old iMac long enough to read all I missed.
Thank you Mr. Ruis for allowing my comments here.

    • You are a welcome voice in this little community. We are basically our own choir we get to preach to, as is the case in most Internet “communities.” I am sorry to hear of your health issues. I have had good health my whole life includes , I assume, a share of “normal” aches and pains which is just an indication that life is a journey punctuated with all of our emotions and many disparate happenings. To avoid such things minimizes our lives. Americans, I have observed, seem to avoid sadness, amongst other things. I no longer do this as I want to get full measure out of my life.

      Welcome back!

  3. Excellent post and so true. The hate does seem to be in overdrive since the new White House occupant, but it was hidden even before, sadly. It can be discouraging. I miss the music of the 60’s…so many good words along with great music

    • If you get a chance to see *Beautiful *.. it was marvelous. The writing was witty, funny, poignant, and engaging. The singing was first rate. And the music was transcendent. I seem to yearn to be able to stand in front of a group of people and sing songs they love. I unfortunately do not possess that ability … but I can dream (I do have that ability).

  4. One of my two favorite albums of this genre. The other is Mud Slide Slim by James Taylor.
Whenever I listen to the track So Far Away it always chokes me up a bit, I have to say.
    Lovely post, Steve.
