The Teenification of Us

I am reading “news stories” in which the writer states that President Trump tweeted this and then his son in law tweeted that and…. This sounds like two young teenagers in a conversation “He went … and then I said … and then he said, and I went…”

Can we stop with the reports on who tweeted what. These are not official communications, nor are they particularly interesting. They sure as Hell aren’t “breaking news.”

  1. Lol … 🙂

      • Howdy Steve … one other thought … the Tweet/Twitter world is not so much the teenification problem, but rather, how an increasing number of people of all ages communicate every day!
Brings to mind what writer, Jim Harrison said when asked if he had a twitter account…something like this: “I can’t say the word ‘tweet’ and continue to think of myself as a man.”

        • I understand; I just wanted to use a reflection of the practice that all would recognize. The attention span of U.S. citizens keeps declining.

  2. It is utterly ridiculous to listen to mainstream media bludgeon Trump for his inane and juvenile tweets, when all of mainstream media communicates the exact same way! What passes for public conversation and discourse is little more than portions of projectile vomit, devoid of notable content, spewed forth here and there. And of course, critical thinking is the victim. Drives me nuts.

  3. I don’t see it that way. The fact that Trump chooses to use Twitter to relay what is going on in his… whatever it is under his hairpiece rather than blurting out some inanity in an interview or some other unscripted remarks (although we get plenty of that from Trump, too) is an indication of teenification of the president’s office, not the rest of us.
And the fact that this is not an official communication channel is not a downside, since the official communication channel is visually nothing more than a stream of airbrushed bullshit. And comparing the raw bullshit from Trump’s twitter account with official bullshit, we can actually find some unintended grains of truth in there.

    • Yeah, but it isn’t as if Trump were a towering political intellect, controlling all that goes on. Right now it seems as if the “ordinary’ Repubs are running things with Trump along for the ride. So what he thinks isn’t at all pertinent, e.g. the House “health care” bill is “mean.”
