The Back Story on the Bogus “Russia Hacked the Election” Claim

Finally a competent journalist has put together the information necessary to tell whether or not we should believe this and similar claims.

Check it out:

  1. A good review of Russian geopolitical history and a necessary understanding of why Russia is both ally and adversary in Western geopolitical history. My one complaint is the absence of any mention about the alliance between Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia that has left a very strong anti-Russian cultural history in Poland and the Baltic region and how that plays out today.

    • I think the focus was on the US-Russian relationship. He also left out Roosevelt’s promise to help the Soviet Union to recover after WWII which was reneged upon by Truman. We still don’t know what the “evidence ” of the Russian hacking is and therefore have no way to evaluate the impact on the election. The claim that the Russians were the cause of trump being elected is clearly bogus. Also, the fact that we have meddled with myriad other countries elections to the point of coups and assassinations, puts us in the position of the pot calling the kettle black.

    • There’s a much longer and much more complicated history between Russia and Poland, as well as the Baltic states, than what has happened since 1930’s.

      • Hey, it was a short column! ;o)

Any major nation has a much more complicated history than anyone knows. What I am worried about is how few know what is easily known today. The vast majority of people, I am sure, that think of Russia as an “enemy”,is probably hearkening back to the USSR.

  2. … [things] have changed while most Americans weren’t paying attention

Whether we’re talking about the “US-Russian relationship and Russia’s approach to Europe” or any other foreign policy matters, this pretty well sums it up. Unless or until the media makes a “big deal” of something, few give a “hoot.”

    • And we expect our politicians to pay attention to what is important? Do they ever ask what is important to us? Or do they just make it up (“The American people want … blah, blah, blah.)

I can remember when I was in community college I would from time to time tune into radio broadcasts of parliamentary sessions from Ottawa. While I do not glorify Canadian government, I wish ours was more like theirs right now. (Please do not inundate me with stories of Canadian political corruption, I am aware they do exist. Our northern neighbors just seem to be more grounded in reality. (Are there any realty deniers in Canada? Probably a few but they are guaranteed to be far between too.)
