Status Quo: Consider Yourself Repudiated

The election results are clear. U.S. voters did not “give a mandate” to the President-elect or “vote to support the policies” of the President-elect. U.S. voters voted overwhelmingly against political business as usual, basically a government that favors corporate interests over those of the populace, a government that favors Wall Street over Main Street, a government that can’t be bothered to do anything fundamentally useful to citizens.

It will be interesting to see what will happen next. (No shit, Sherlock!)

  1. It’s never been a good idea to put an arsonist in charge of investigating who lit the fire. I can’t imagine what they think Trump will do to “fix” Washington politics, other than line his pockets with taxpayer money.

    • I don’t think there was a great deal of thought involved, unless you thing that a great deal of the same thoughts, re-thought over and over, counts.

I think people were fed up with bullshit politics in which, predictably the banks get bailed out but homeowners do not, that college kids can’t go through bankruptcy a relieve crushing debts when slimy business people can over and over, etc. Clearly Trump’s message wan’t “I have policies that will make things better for you.” Most of his utterances could be filed in a folder labeled “Ways to Make Other People’s Lives Worse.”

So, what did people really want? They wanted no more of the same old, same old and because only two candidates are allowed (others are allowed but only on paper) they selected the candidate farthest from the status quo.

If Bernie Sanders hadn’t been undermined by the Democratic establishment, he would have beaten Trump handily. He offered a progressive future and was a nice guy to boot.

    • We get to see his tax returns now, don’t we?

He has to dissolve all business interests, which’ll be a fun little exercise.

      • Lol! Yeaaaah, NO. We *will* get to see the DOJ ignore conflict of interest, and any other criminal malfeasance he does. I’m sure they’ll prosecute “Crooked Hillary” though…..

        • I thought the DOJ was out, like the DOE and all of those other unnecessary guvmint agencies.

      • We can only wish for the kind of conversion that occurs when a Supreme Court justice gets placed on the bench and then undergoes a transformation from conservative to liberal, etc.

And, we will have to see who gets to choose his “advisors.” Trump seems to be lazy, so he’s seems inclines to let others do all of the work, so his “advisors,” aka “minions” are critical.

I also wonder how the Repubs are going to react when the Democrats block their Supreme Court nominees for the next four years.

        • Can they block them? They don’t control the senate.

          • Oh, yeah. Senate procedures allow any Senator to put a “hold” on any nomination for any reason or no reason at all.

              • Well, all of those evangelicals have been praying for the End Times to come. You think this is it?

  2. Let’s see: Antichrist? Check! War and chaos? Check! (Heck the amount of that in the Republican Party should qualifyus!) Uh, what else did we need to check off … oh, Jerusalem is mightily fucked up … thank you Benjamin Netanyahu. Did I miss anything?

  3. One way or another we are truly and royally fucked. The only question now is how badly?

    • Maybe this is the End Times, the End Times for America … nah, we can survive this. we aren’t a bunch of pussies .. ask Trump. Consider this the Full Employment for Comedians Act.

      • Surviving this, unless Trump pulls a Trump with the big red button I think is doable.

What really concerns me is the power he has to set this country back 150 years with Supreme Court nominees, repealing the clean air act, digging more coal, and building more coal plants. Turning Roe vs. Wade. Giving corporations the same considerations as people…oh wait!

What ever other regular Trump nonsense that remains to be seen, building the wall, bombing the shit out of people etc. We might survive…

        • Historically, Mr. Trump has espoused more liberal stances than conservative ones (he read about them in “two Corinthians). What he is inclined to favor is beyond me.

  4. I had a sense of Deja Vu after the results. I felt I was back in 1968!!! Nixon and Agnew all over. Well at least Nixon was a semi-competent paranoid! He would be a liberal now!!! Still, you never know. Trump could turn out to be good……. Nah!
