A Way Forward for Bernie-ites

Currently the largest political party in the U.S. is “Independent” which is equivalent to “no party.” Like those in the Republican Party who left that party to become Democrats or Independents, members of both parties now can claim “I didn’t leave the party, it left me.” The Democratic Party now seems just as bad as the GOP. The Democrats are neoliberal and anti-union and anti-democratic in many of its policies. Are the Dems further left than the GOP? Sure, there are but so is Attila the Hun.

“We need a Democratic Socialist Party!”

Since it is hard to go somewhere when there is nowhere to go, we need a new political party to represent the large number of Americans who resonated to the call by Senator Bernie Sanders to start a new revolution. We need a Democratic Socialist Party, a party that combines a commitment to democracy and a commitment to all of the people in its makeup.

Bernie, if you build it we will come.

Hell, if you just get it started, we will build it.

I will not longer vote for oligarchy-supporting Democrats or Republicans. We need candidates we can vote for. We already have too many we can only vote against. We need a new way.

    • I am thinking of the song Alice’s Restaurant in which Arlo Guthrie sings “..if two people do it, then is a coincidence … but of three people do it, if three people do it, my friends, well, then it is a movement.” Since my partner has already signed on along with me, you Sylvia are the one who has turned this effort into a movement!

  3. We do need a third party, but if this one is going to be consistently to the left of the Democrats, I think it will not win a majority of independents. Since I don’t buy the argument that Democrats and Republicans are equally bad, I’ll be voting for Democrats in November – and by the way, I’m registered as independent and voted for Bernie in the primary.

    • Yes, left of the Dems is where I am. GOP in the far right. Dems in the center. Nobody on the left. we need a party to cover the bases for the political spectrum. If the votes are split three ways, you no longer need 50+% to win.

The Dem Party used to have members from the far-left to moderately conservative. The GOP had moderate liberals to the far-right folks. Between the two, the entire spectrum was covered with each party more to one side than the other. But with the recent polarization, there are no liberals and few centrists left in the GOP and no conservatives and few liberals left in the Dem Party. This is why party affiliations are so low. many, many of us are left out of their spectra.

  4. No doubt the system is broken. This is not what our founding fathers had in mind (at least I think that’s the case.)

I have no choice however to vote Hillary. As voting Trump is isanity and not voting at all is apathy. I sure as hell can’t bitch about whoever wins or loses if I do not vote.

I also fear by not voting, enough brain addled nitwits will vote in Trump. I have to cancel out at least one of them sum bitches. My wife will vote H too, so there’s two Trump votes out the window.

IF a legitimate independent party can be cobbled together, I would seriously look at that option. However I would again be fearful, this time that it might just split the democratic vote enough that Trump would win. Tough choice with a HUGE risk.

    • I will vote, but I do not vote for all offices and I will write-in Bernie Sanders for President.
