When Scientists Think They Know Something, They Try to Prove It

According to the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute “a grass called teosinte is thought to be the ancestor of corn, but it doesn’t look much like corn at all. Scientists were surprised to find that teosinte planted in growth chambers under climate conditions that simulate the environment 10,000 to 12,000 years ago looks more like corn. This may help to explain why early farmers chose to cultivate teosinte and lends support to the idea that teosinte was domesticated to become one of the most important staple crops in the world.

‘We grew teosinte in the conditions that it encountered 10,000 years ago during the early Holocene period: temperatures 2-3 degrees Celsius cooler than today’s with atmospheric carbon dioxide levels at around 260 parts per million,’ said Dolores Piperno, senior scientist and curator of archaeobotany and South American archaeology at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, who led the project. ‘Intriguingly, the teosinte plants grown under past conditions exhibit characteristics more like corn: a single main stem topped by a single tassel, a few, very short branches tipped by female ears and synchronous seed maturation.

After the Industrial Revolution, carbon dioxide rose to today’s 405 parts per million, the level in the control chamber where teosinte plants look like plants in the wild today – tall, with many long branches tipped by tassels and seed maturation taking place over a period of a few months.”

What they also showed, but didn’t mention, is that the atmospheric CO2 level does have significant effects upon the environoment, contrary to what Climate Change deniers state. They claim that Climate Change is a hoax because it isn’t mentioned in the Bible and they have faith, once again proving that faith is “pretending to know things you do not know.”

  1. Sorry but atmospheric CO2 is only at 300 parts per million.

And even if it were 450 parts per million (.045%), that is still too minuscule an amount to cause significant warming.

The sun is what powers Earth weather. And water vapor is the most significant and abundant green house gas in Earth’s atmosphere.

And as we know from science, the Earth has periods of hot and ice ages.

    All without man.

Man-made global warming is a proven hoax.

      • Woody,

400 parts per million is only .04%.

That is a minuscule amount of CO2 and cannot possibly cause global warming.

Global warming is such an obvious hoax that the hoaxers changed the name to “climate change.”

    • “Man-made global warming is a proven hoax.”

Proven eh? Where’s the evidence? I thought most deniers were just saying there is not conclusive evidence that man-made global warming is real. Now your saying it’s a proven fact that it’s a total hoax. Man up SOM. Let’s see what you got

      • Woody,

The lead hoaxers for global warming, Michael Mann from Penn State University, and Phil Jones from East Anglia University were busted by a hacker who leaked their emails to the pubic.

This happened a few years ago.

In the emails Mann and Jones conspire to falsify the climate data and corrupt the peer review process.

The UN was also busted for basing their global warming plans, not on science but on the opinion of a bureaucrat who simply stated that he believed in global warming.

Man-made global warming is a proven hoax.

    • “The sun is what powers Earth weather. And water vapor is the most significant and abundant green house gas in Earth’s atmosphere.”

Oh so much wrong here. Where to begin?

Let’s see, yes the sun is the main source of energy for earth. What’s your point here. It’s not the UV rays from the sun that do us harm. It’s infra red rays on their return trip to space after being absorbed by the earth or the ocean releasing heat. So its not the suns rays that we’re concerned about as much as it is their inability to leave our atmosphere before they heat up the planet. The more greenhouse gases we put into the atmosphere traps more of those infra red rays and acts like a blanket heating the planet. Basic greenhouse effect information SOM. You did know this didn’t you?

Now let’s get to your discovery that H2O is the most significant and abundant green house gas in Earth’s atmosphere. Here’s what the atmosphere is really made up of.

90% of the gases that make up our atmosphere are nitrogen and oxygen, with the remainder being Argon, Water vapor and CO2, present in variable quantities in the remaining 10%.

Only the gases with 3 atoms that are present in the atmosphere in very small quantities like H2O & CO2 have the property to absorb energy, either as sunlight or infrared beams, unlike the 2 atom molecules of NO and Oxygen.

So as much as you want to make it look like H2O is no threat to us, the point to make here is that it still is a green house gas that can trap CO2. A further point is that we have no control over the H2O in the atmosphere whereas the same can’t be said for the tons of CO2 we emit each day after it has been removed from the bowels of the universe where the Good Lord put it and cursed are those who extract it and fuck up his creation by putting it in places he never intended, or did I miss that part in the Bible that said we could this?

Please don’t quote that part of Genesis that gave us domain over the plants and animals. Literally taken these things are on the surface but even if you want to stretch it to the point that allows us to extract carbon from its resting place then you have to assure us that you are being good stewards by doing this. Ask anyone who lives near a coal-fired power plant or a refinery if they think burning this shit is part of God’s plan for them

Oh wait, you’re a climate denier who doesn’t believe in anthropogenic global warming. How convenient. I wonder what your children and grandchildren will say when they know that you made through life without feeling the devastating effects of what you ignored

      • CORRECTION: Excessive exposure to UV rays are harmful to humans. Was merely pointing out that without an atmosphere with green hosue gases to trap many of them coming in or allow them to bounce back out into space before they have had a chance to convert to infra red rays, the earth would be too hot for any life form as we now know it.

You just need the attention don’t you. No one takes you seriously at home so you come in here to pretend to be a grown up and have someone take you serious. They do have mental health services for depression in your area don’t they?

            • Woody,

You have degenerated from changing the subject to gross rudeness.

Even when given proof that man-made global warming is a hoax you still insist on believing the hoax.

This shows that atheists aren’t really interested in proof.

Sorry, everything I wrote was right.

        Global warming is a hoax.

Babbling nonsense can’t save you from reality.

The earth is in fact going into a prolonged period of cooling.

  2. It’s probably a truism to say that scientist, though respected, are not trusted, simply because most people don’t feel they share their values. Facts be damned. If there is no sense of simpatico then the evidence is often ignored, denied or out right rejected. Sad, so sad.

On the other hand, many religious leaders may be respected but few trust them.

If only more climate deniers were as good looking as S.E. Cupp I might convert myself – NOT.

  3. silenceofmind seems to think that if he repeats something often enough, that makes it true. The idea that Mann and Jones “hoaxed” the entire scientific establishment, who now live in thrall to their fraudulent findings is just plain silly.

    • Moss,

There is nothing wrong with repeating the truth over and over.

That is far better than atheists and global warmers repeating their lies over and over.

The Mann-Jones expose is proof that man-made global warming is a hoax.

Atheists always demand truth but when it proves them wrong they simply deny it.

Your attempt to shame me for repeating the truth in the face of the constant indoctrination we receive regarding the global warming hoax is shameful.

You and your leftist buddies aren’t “everybody.”

And even if you were it wouldn’t make any difference.

Just like ObamaCare, man-made global warming is nothing but a pack of provable, now obvious lies.
