When Will the Real Democrats Show Up?

According to President Obama and leading Democrats like Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, my home state, everything is on the table for budget negotiations with Republicans. What I want to know is when will the real Democrats show up?

President Obama (I voted for him and now am regretting it) is sponsoring a corporate takeover of public education, is sponsoring the Trans Pacific Partnership, an immense corporate boondoggle that will only benefit the 1% and cost a huge number of jobs to leave the country, plus cause our labor and environmental laws to be trumped by this treaty, and he is even falling for conservative ideology that social programs are in trouble and need to be reformed. He is even using the economic numbers that they produce that have been shown to be biased.

You don’t have to be an economist to see that the so-called “deficit-problem” and “National Debt problem” were and are caused by the Bush Tax cuts, the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the economic collapse, all caused by conservatives! Here’s the proof.

Exposing the Deficit Hawk Lie

So, the conservatives create the “problems” and Democrats must compromise the social safety net to solve them? Not tax the rich again, but cut social services at the desire of the conservatives? This is what the conservatives call a “win, win, win, win situation.” I wish we had some Democrats with balls.

Let’s take Medicare and Social Security. Social Security is solvent for the next 20 years and can be solvent for much, much longer, by extending the tax paid to all income earned instead of capping it at only on the first X dollars of income. This is a regressive tax in a country with a progressive tax system.

Medicare is not an immediate problem and even if it were, it is because of our out of control costs for medical services. The U.S. pays twice as much for medicines and medical services than the next richest country, with no improvement in outcomes. Is there some reason that we pay two times what things are worth other than, well, “we’ve always done it that way.” And President Obama is open to changes in Medicare while he claims the Affordable Care Act/Obamacare is going to hold down medical costs but it hasn’t had time to work yet. In other words, we have a partial solution to the problem in place but it is just being enacted so we don’t know how well it will work, so let’s try another solution. This is effing crazy.

And will anyone tell me that cutting benefits to Seniors will do anything other than result in them dying sooner? Anybody? The average SS benefit check is a bit over $1200 per month. Yes it’s those damned greedy Seniors causing the problem. Why SS benefits are enough money to make them . . .  poor! No, the problem is not the hedge fund managers making a billion or more dollars per year, producing nothing, and paying only 15% in federal tax. It is not the rich folks who have bribed public officials to lower their taxes so much that their share of the wealth has expanded to previously unseen levels in the last thirty years.

Don’t tax the rich; cut the Seniors, cut the Seniors!

Please, if there are any real Democrats, please join Senator Bernie Sanders to see if we can inject any sanity into these “negotiations.”

We can’t talk about this long enough and loud enough and only hope that it never makes it through our gridlocked Congress. This will be one time I will be glad to see partisanship if it prevents this treaty from being ratified.

    • Unfortunately, the source of most of the gridlock, the House, is being bypassed as only the Senate need ratify a treaty. For once I am in favor of a filibuster.

PS We’ve moved (again)! Just change the Apt # from 28C to 17A (110 feet down and about 30 feet east). Effective Date: October 1, 2013
