GOP: “That’s a Nice Little Economy, Be a Shame If Anything Happened to It.”

Once again, Congressional Republicans are playing a high stake game of “if I don’t get my way, I will take my ball and go home” by threatening to shut down the government and even to default on our debts if the Democrats don’t agree to defund the Affordable Care Act. Unfortunately they will take the fragile economic recovery with them. One must question the intelligence of those who think this is a good idea. Even the Wall Street Journal has commented of the Republican effort “Kamikaze missions rarely turn out well, least of all for the pilots” and the WSJ is not some liberal rag, easily dismissed (except maybe by Fox (sic) News).

Even economic watchdogs, like Moody’s Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi, a former advisor to John McCain, have testified to Congress that “You can only put the gun to your head so many times before someone is going to make a mistake and pull the trigger.”

The GOP pols have become thugs, extorting “protection money” from the rest of us. If they get away with it, will their behavior change for the positive? I don’t think so. If it works, it will be done again.

If they don’t get away with it, will they tank the economy “by accident?” Hey, there is no “by accident” here, this is deliberate. If they do it, it will because of their initiative, a totally unnecessary initiative at that.

Speaker of the House John Boehner has said “There should be no conversation about shutting the government down. That’s not the goal. There is no interest in our part in shutting down the government.”

Hello, there is no threat here? If there is no threat, then why are all of the experts jumpy? Why would Democrats agree to defund the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) which is what is what is being demanded for their cooperation, if there were no threat?

Sounds more like a Mafia “associate” shaking down a pizzeria, “Hey, I ain’t threatening to do nothing, capisce.” No, there is no threat here, move along, nothing to see. How you doin’?

  1. “You can only put the gun to your head so many times before someone is going to make a mistake and pull the trigger.”

May i elaborate on this by saying: Until someone wishes you just pulled the trigger.

    • You may just get your wish! The combination of incompetence and ideology is so toxic in the GOP they might not be able to pull the trigger on real solutions. A 2-3 week shut down oof the fed government will pull 1.5% out of GDP growth which may trigger another recession.

Remember when US GOPers were talking about what was not needed was “uncertainty.” I fail to see how they are helping.
