I’ll believe the Republicans are serious about reducing federal spending when:
- They cut off all corporate welfare, especially to Big Oil and Big Agriculture.
- They cut defense spending to levels commensurate with our needs rather than the needs of defense contractors.
- They cut into massive unemployment with needed infrastructure spending thus creating a tax base that will preclude further deficit spending.
- They propose a fair and progressive tax system that taxes the rich more than the poor, instead of the other way around.
Instead we have Congressmen voting to extend farm subsidies that they themselves benefit from (and from which votes they should recuse themselves because of that) and at the same time voting to reduce food stamps for the poor.
Instead we have Congressmen voting to confirm the business interests of gun manufacturers over the safety of the people.
Instead we have Congressmen voting to reduce women’s reproductive options.
Instead we have Congressmen, defending tax breaks for the wealthy.
Instead we have Congressmen trying to undermine the social safety net.
And can you guess, boys and girls, which party they belong to?
Got it in one.
