New Pope, Same as the Old Pope, Part 2

Commentators are gushing over the new Pope, specifically gushing about him being a Latino and a son of immigrants. That the man lived humbly is admirable, but gosh, isn’t that what he was supposed to do? As Chris Rock says “you don’t get no credit for doing what you supposed to do.”

But the Latino aspect … the immigrant aspect? Hey, his parents moved to Argentina from Italy, so culturally his parents were Italian. Ethnically they were Italian, too. So, how is he different from what he would have been had his family stayed in Italy? He is not of Spanish mixed race as most people are referring to when they use the term “latino.” The culture of his youth was Italian, the culture of his adulthood was that of the Catholic Church.

He is a conservative on social issues, very conservative. But he does have an issue with “economic disparity.” So, the new Pope is just like the old Pope, but with some whining that we aren’t taking care of our poor.

I am sure we will be grateful for his help. Don’t expect him to sell all his possessions and give them to the poor, after all that’s what Jesus taught.

  1. The election of this pope must have been a solution for the Vatican’s dilemma of how to elect a pope who’s European, yet make everyone think he’s not.

    • Got it in one! Didn’t need 10. Good work!

News hogs were gushing that he addressed the Cardinals today in fluent Italian! Imagine that!

      • Oh wow, the Pope is performing miracles already! What next – will we find out tomorrow that he’s so hip that he has a Facebook account?

      • If I am not mistaken, the Pope is also your colleague, in a way: he has a masters degree in chemistry.

        • All of us power mongers have a certain chemistry! ;o)

Woe to my people, how we have gone astray!
