Rich People Are Different

Rich conservatives often seem to not want their taxes to go to support poor people and other evils, but seem to want the government to ever expand the public monies spent on “national defense.” This does seem consistent in that our “national defense” often seems to involve raining armaments onto the heads of poor people in other countries.

I think it would be wise, therefore, for President Obama to sign an executive order stipulating that rich people’s taxes be only spent on defense. In this manner, rich people would no longer need to feel any angst at all about their hard-earned dollars going into some poor person’s pocket while simultaneously supplying them with the good feeling that it is they that are keeping us safe from invasions of . . . of . . . well, poor people from other countries.

  1. Interesting how the rich don’t understand the impact of a significant portion of the population living below poverty or the increasing wealth gap on the nation’s security or stability.

    • The scary thing is maybe they do–every indication is that they think that their wealth says something about them (positively).

  2. Of course it can’t work in operation, but i’ve always loved the idea of having a check-list attached to your tax form on which you “tick” which sectors get your money, and how much. Education 40%, Space/science 30%, the Arts 10%… and so on. THAT would be a real democracy.

    • I see no reason that it can’t work in operation. All it requires is for rich people’s taxes to go into the “pool” and Defense spending to come out. If Defense Spending > Rich People’s Taxes (currently true) then voila!

The idea of stating where your tax money goes would obviate the need of a Congress as their only purpose is to redistribute wealth (as they have abdicated their only other real reason to exist–declaring war, which is another spending issue, really) so we would never be able to get such through Congress!

            • Don’t get me started on the assholes who thought it funny to name a bill taking away many of our civil rights the “Patriot” Act!

              • Did you ever see the interview where even Bush said he regretted the name?

                • No, but that is surprising from a guy who wouldn’t apologize for starting the Iraq War (“as that would be saying it was a mistake”). And, well G.W. wasn’t playing with a full deck as it were, especially when you consider Karl Rove was considered “Bush’s Brain.”
